Register with Milestones
Registration Explained
The registration process is straightforward beginning with a form and a few consents. We’ll ask for the essential details to create the Brief Profile: your subject’s full name, date and place of death (as well as any other locations that were important in their life), and their date and place of birth. Marriage details are optional ; we happily take a classic photograph if you have one.
Most importantly, we’ll need a short life summary—just 50 to 200 words. Think of it as a trailer for the Obituary. To wrap up the Brief Profile, we add an Invitation to submit Appreciations.
We’re here to help! Our experienced moderators are on hand to guide you through the process. If we need to make any edits to your text to match our protocol, we’ll always check with you first to make sure you’re happy with the changes. Feel free to reach out to us any time at theteam@milestonesscotland.co.uk.
You’ll find more detailed guidance on format, content, and photo requirements in our content protocol, so please check it out.
Once you’re done with registration a display on your screen will acknowledge and you’ll receive an email with your unique Milestones reference (UMR.) This UMR is important—keep it somewhere safe! It confirms your role as our customer and is needed later. If, in the future, you’d like to pass your UMR to another family member or a third party, we can usually transfer the customer role to them. You can find more information about this in the Protocol attached to our Terms & Conditions.
A word about our terminology. Instead of ‘the deceased’ or ‘the loved one,’ we’ve chosen to use ‘the subject’ to describe the person whose memory you want to register. You are our ‘customer,’ we refer to anything published in the Register as an ‘entry;’ adding entries is ‘enhancing the profile.’
A few friendly tips for filling out the registration form below:
– Make sure you have everything you need before you begin, like the death certificate and the short life summary. This will make the process much smoother.
– Please send us the life summary as plain text or in a Word document—not as an image or PDF.
– Registration is completely free, so you won’t need your bank details—unless you’d like to make a donation, which is entirely optional.
