Protocol One. Guidance relating to Content

One. Definitions.

Subject  — means the deceased person the memories and Appreciations of whom are displayed or sought to be displayed in Milestones website milestonesscotland.co.uk.

Entries —  are the totality of information about any subject displayed on that website.

UMR —  is in the Unique Milestones Reference number, being the token by which any Customer establishes their ownership of a subject’s entries.

Customer —  is the person standing in right of the UMR.

Two. Legal and Binding

1.. Milestones is open to all without regard for religion or gender. We reserve the right to reject content that is homophobic, anti-semitic, islamophobic or disrespectful of any minority.

2..Bearing in mind that the archive may be used for research purposes, we seek precision regarding dates and references, including links to related material .

3..At the hand of our moderator Milestones reserves the right, exercised in consultation with the customer, to edit material submitted to achieve these ends and to correct typographical errors.

Three. Style

1..Please use a standard font (Times New Roman, Arial). Photos of high resolution may be attached (JPEG, TIFF).

2..Remember to keep your entries concise and clear, accessible to a general readership.

3..It is understood that styles will vary. Write in a way that conveys the quality of your relationship or interaction with your Subject; aim for a light but respectful tone.

4..Usually, entries will be in the third person (‘he’ or ‘she’, rather than ‘you’).

Four. Supplementary, Procedure

1..For guidance on the content of the Brief Profile and Appreciations, please refer to the appropriate protocol.

2.. Once you have the text for your entry to your satisfaction whether the short life summary for the Brief Profile or an enhancement the form needed to register it is at the foot of the Register page.  Bear in mind that we cannot cope with texts in photo form or as PDF.

Lastly. Alterations to these Rules.

Protocol Two. Guidance relating to Appreciations

Contributor — is a person submitting an Appeciation

Protocol Three. Guidance relating to Change of Customer.

One. Definitions.

Subject  — means the deceased person the memories and Appreciations of whom are displayed or sought to be displayed in Milestones website milestonesscotland.co.uk.

Entries —  are the totality of information about any subject displayed on that website.

UMR —  is in the Unique Milestones Reference number, being the token by which any Customer establishes their ownership of a subject’s entries.

Customer —  is the person standing in right of the UMR.

Inquirer —  is a family member, or a person claiming to be a family member, who seeks the consent of Milestones to be substituted as their Customer.

DPR  — means the data protection rules applying to information held by us.

Us, We — Milestones Scotland Ltd.

Two. Procedure

a)  Data Protection Rules (DPR )require us to respect the identities of Customer and Inquirer. We may not initiate or consent to communication between Customer and Inquirer or Inquirers or among Inquirers without the consent of all parties. If, in our absolute discretion, we consider that the interests of the website so require, we may decline to identify customers and inquirers to one another notwithstanding their consent.

b) Upon receipt of  a communication from an  Inquirer seeking to be substituted we shall pass the same, suitably anonymised, to our customer, together with our recommendation. Notwithstanding our customer’s views it shall be at Milestones’ absolute discretion whether to accede to any request therein. It is anticipated that where our original Customer was not a family member an Inquirer’s request for substitution will be routinely granted.

c) For the avoidance of doubt, upon an Inquirer becoming our customer:

i) our UMR Register shall be so amended,

ii) our original customer shall retain no rights of any kind in respect of  their entries and, in particular, no right of objection to new entries submitted to and accepted by us,

iii) our original customer shall have no claim against us in respect of our sanctioning  a change of customer.

Three. Disputes.

In the event of any dispute between parties claiming the status of Customer in respect of any Subject, the entries for that person shall be taken down from the website until the issue is resolved.

Lastly. Alterations to these Rules.

Protocol Four. Guidance relating to transfer of UMR 

One. Definitions.

Subject  — means the deceased person the memories and Appreciations of whom are displayed or sought to be displayed in Milestones website milestonesscotland.co.uk.

Entries —  are the totality of information about any subject displayed on that website.

UMR —  is in the Unique Milestones Reference number, being the token by which any Customer establishes their ownership of a subject’s entries.

Customer —  is the person standing in right of the UMR.

Enquirer —  is a family member, or a person claiming to be a family member, who seeks the consent of Milestones to the transfer of the operative UMR in their favour and thus their substitution as Customer.

DPR  — means the data protection rules applying to information held by us.

Two. Procedure

a) Where a customer  wishes to substitute another person in their place, as standing in right of the UMR, then on appropriate details being provided Milestones will normally sanction the request.

b) In the event an enquiry is received from a third party giving reasons  for the transfer request (classically the death of the Customer) then on appropriate details being provided by the Enquirer, Milestones will normally sanction the request.
