Christina attended James Gillespie’s School for Girls from age five until she trained as a teacher, returning to spend her career there. An inspirational teacher she numbered one Muriel Camberg amongst her pupils. Her lessons and concerns for ‘her girls’ extended well beyond the curriculum. To the consternation of some parents she made no secret of her admiration for Mussolini.
The model for Jean Brodie in the novel The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Camberg now Muriel Spark, as the latter acknowledged in Curriculum Vitae, she was ‘ ‘a character in search of an author.’
She lived alone after the death of her mother in 1913, retiring, after a lifetime of appreciated service to the school, in 1942.
