Brief Profile
John Hugh Regan (Jack) was born on January 10th 1942 in Edinburgh, to John and Mary Agnes Regan and educated at Scotus Academy.
A greatly admired and acclaimed broadcast journalist, he began his career as a copy boy in the Scotsman newspaper. After graduating from Edinburgh University he took up a post with the Daily Nation in Nairobi, but by 1970 was back in Scotland working as the first BBC Scottish affairs correspondent.
From 1984-87, he was home news editor in London, then head of news and current affairs in Scotland (1987-92) followed by the post of London correspondent for BBC Radio Scotland (1992-93). After this, until his untimely death, he freelanced for the BBC, producing a varied series of interesting programmes.
Jack Regan has been called “The distinctive voice of Radio Scotland”. He was “passionate and persuasive “; he was “gregarious and jolly “ and great company but he was a thinker, too. He was a committed family man and a religious man: his Catholic faith went deep.
He was survived by Katie and their two sons and three daughters.
